Two New Offerings at Cedar Point: Rock Band, Live and a Breakfast with the PEANUTS Characters

SANDUSKY, Ohio, May 29 — Beginning next weekend, there will be even more to do at Cedar Point.  Musically inclined guests have a chance to become a rock star while early risers will be able to have breakfast with their favorite PEANUTS characters.

On Saturday, June 5, Rock Band, Live will premiere in the Jack Aldrich Theatre, near the front of the park.  One of five new shows that will be introduced at the Sandusky, Ohio, amusement park/resort this summer, Rock Band, Live will be a real-life version of Rock Band®, the popular video game produced by MTV Games.

Before each show, guests will be able to display their talent on the drums, guitar or bass guitar to win a chance to perform in one of the Rock Band, Live shows throughout the day.  Winners will be chosen before each show and will receive a backstage pass and perform on stage with the Rock Band, Live cast members.

In celebration of the Rock Band, Live premiere, Cedar Point will be hosting a competition for guests and Facebook visitors alike to become the Rock Band, Live Champion and be the first guest performers in the Rock Band, Live premiere show on Saturday, June 5.

Monday through Wednesday, May 31 to June 2, a Facebook drawing will be held to choose six groups at random to compete in the Rock Band, Live competition.  On Saturday, June 5, two groups of park guests will be chosen to challenge the Facebook winners for the title of Rock Band, Live Champion.  Winners will receive a VIP tour of Cedar Point, gift certificates from the Hard Rock Cafe and various other prizes.  For more information, please visit cedarpoint.com.

Also beginning this weekend will be Breakfast Buffet with the PEANUTS Characters, a breakfast with your favorite PEANUTS characters at the Midway Market.  On Saturdays and Sundays beginning June 5, guests can dine with their favorite Peanuts characters from 8:30-10 a.m.  Characters will greet guests and visit each table to take pictures with the loveable characters.

For additional entertainment, the summer spectacular Hot Summer Lights: Fire Up the Night will open for the season on Friday, June 4.  Shows will be daily at 10 p.m., weather permitting.  This sensory experience showcases a combination of music, sound, light, video and pyrotechnics.

Returning this season for its 22nd year will be CoasterMania. On Friday and Saturday, June 4-5, approximately 1,500 thrill-seekers will invade Cedar Point to challenge the park’s roller coasters, participate in exclusive tours and more.  On Friday evening, there will be a presentation from Walter Bolliger of Bolliger and Mabillard Consulting Engineers (B & M) who designed Cedar Point’s Raptor (1994) and Mantis (1996) coasters.

Shoot the Rapids Opening Delayed, Again

Cedar Point’s Math and Science Week Ready for Launch

SANDUSKY, Ohio, May 14 — Aeronautics, science missions, experiments and a NASA astronaut are just some of the special activities that are planned for this year’s Math and Science Week at Cedar Point amusement park/resort in Sandusky, Ohio.

School groups from the around the Midwest will be visiting the world’s largest ride park located on the shores of Lake Erie to participate in the educational programs and activities that are designed for middle and high school students.  The five-day event will be held May 17-21 at various locations along the park’s midways.

Participating in the event will be NASA’s Glenn Research Center of Cleveland, The Great Lakes Science Center, Cleveland, COSI (Center of Science and Industry) of Columbus and the Detroit Science Center.

NASA’s Glenn Research Center and the Great Lakes Science Center will team up to present exhibits featuring Aeronautics and Microgravity Man throughout the entire week.

On Wednesday and Thursday, May 19-20, the Detroit Science Center will be presenting three displays on physical science:  Gravity & Centripetal Force, Conservation of Angular Momentum and Distribution of Mass.  COSI of Columbus will be providing exhibits and displays on Thursday and Friday, May 20-21.

On Friday, May 21, NASA astronaut Captain Michael J. Foreman will visit the park.  Foreman has flown more than 5,000 hours in more than 50 different aircraft.   He has also been a Mission Specialist on two space shuttle missions logging more than 26 days in space, including five spacewalks.  Foreman will make a presentation at 11 a.m. in the Good Time Theatre.

Cedar Point will also host two special events during the week.  The Wright Brass ensemble will perform at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Monday, May 17.  Wright Brass is one of four chamber ensembles within the United States Air Force Band of Flights and has performed at many colleges and universities throughout the country.

On Thursday, May 20, Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) drivers Joey Coulter, Patrick Sheltra, Robb Brent and current point-leader Justin Marks will be at the park to greet guests from 2-4 p.m. near the Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster.

Last weekend to scream

SANDUSKY, Ohio –- Time is running out!  There is only one weekend left to ride all the best roller coasters or enjoy all the fun and frights of HalloWeekends at Cedar Point.

This will be the last weekend of operation for Cedar Point this year.  The Sandusky, Ohio, amusement park/resort will only be open on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 30-31 and Nov. 1) before it closes for the season.

During this last weekend, all nine of Cedar Point’s haunted attractions: five outdoor scare zones and four haunted houses including the new G.A. Boeckling’s Eerie Estate and Happy Jack’s Toy Factory haunted houses, will be in operation all three nights.  All outdoor scare zones will be open until midnight on Friday and Saturday.  And now, because of the time change on Sunday morning, they will be open from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, making the entire HalloWeekends’ experience available on Sunday!

It is also $25 SuperSaver Sunday if you plan ahead.  Admission tickets for Sunday are available for only $25 at cedarpoint.com.  Tickets must be purchased before midnight on Thursday, Oct. 29 and are only valid on Sunday, Nov. 1.  Admission tickets for $29.99 are also available at cedarpoint.com.  These tickets can be used any day of the remaining three-day weekend.  But hurry, there is only a limited supply of these tickets available.

During HalloWeekends, the park combines its huge assortment of rides and roller coasters with dozens of Halloween attractions that range from outdoor scare zones and haunted houses to live entertainment and children’s attractions that include the Monster Midway Invasion Celebration parade (4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday afternoon), the Magical House on Boo Hill and the Hay Bale Maze.  

This will also be the last weekend to ride Demon Drop at Cedar Point.  At the end of the season the free-falling thrill ride will be relocated to Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, Calif.  On Sunday, lucky guests who find a “Golden Ticket” can be one of the last riders on Demon Drop.  See cedarpoint.com/demondrop for all of the details.

This weekend, Cedar Point will be open from 6 p.m. to midnight on Friday, noon to midnight on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
